THERE is no “record or evidence” of how anyone except a select inner circle benefited over a 10-year period in which the State was funding an organisation for survivors of institutional abuse, it has been claimed.

Right of Place in Cork, which has been in crisis since last year following revelations that donated money was not filtering down to members, has been funded to the tune of at least €2.4 million by the HSE since 2002, with more than €1m coming from the Department of Education.

These figures do not include unknown amounts from religious orders.

Now the recently elected treasurer and secretary of a new board of directors, which the HSE hoped would ease unrest within the organisation, have resigned, claiming they cannot stand over an alleged cover-up in relation to past actions of the organisation.

In August Tom Brennan and Patrick Cleary were elected to the board of the Cork-based charity, which claims to represent up to 1,500 people, although a database has not been produced to prove this.

After taking legal advice, and having not received any answers to his questions, Mr Brennan quit.

Despite ongoing concerns the HSE continues to fob off queries in relation to Right of Place and is ignoring requests for a full and independent investigation into how millions of euro in taxpayers’ money has been spent.

Last month, the organisation’s founder and project leader, Noel Barry, who has always refused to comment on the situation, finally stepped down.

    Many Thanks Kay

  2. Rob Northall says:

One of the simple reasons that they will not investigate is the question of Representation!

The HSE wants it to be true that they really represented all the people they were Funded for!

If they investigate they will have revisit decision made on behalf of Survivors – The Statutory Fund for certain!

May be the Redress Board? and the Indemnity Deal? Who knows???

Am I wrong but have groups in the UK had their Funding removed or brought under review now they are no longer useful in pushing through the Consultation on the Statutory Fund?????

  3. Paul Nolan says:

One thing i learned while in these institutions, corruption knows no bounds. If the HSE does not want to look into these shady funds i have to wonder WHY.
    Paul.

Paddy Cleary also has stepped down, because he also could not abide by what was going on.Is there some form of pressure or intimidation. being applied here, it appears to me the tactics remain to keep the bully boys in control.as always thank you again Paddy god bless

  5. Fiona says:

Of course “THEY” (HSE) will not get to the bottom of this and Of Course they (HSE)will NOT JAIL anyone. Look at whats going on right in front of you all
    Is Sean Fitzpatrick in Jail?
    Is David Drumm in Jail?
    Brian Cowan?
    Bertie Ahearn?

  6. Pat Brennan says:

    Hi
Yes I am Tom Bennan’s brother I can say and not because he is my brother but Tom is one of the most honest men a person could meet before he rsigned he called to me practically in tears because he was so frustrated with the attitued of the H.S.E. and new Chairman. All he ever wanted to do was help our fellow survivors and get to the bottom of what was going on in Right Of Place, a sad loss.

WHAT KIND O FOOLS DO R.O.P THINK WE ARE.ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I SEE THEY GOT RID OF TWO HONEST AND HARD WORKING MEN (MR C HEAPHY AND MR T BRENNAN.
I GOT A LETTER FROM R.O.P FROM A M WALSH SAYING THEY WANT TIME TO SORT THINGS OUT
I UNDERSTOOD NOEL BARRY AND TRAENOR HAD RESIGNED.
NO WAY THE LETTER REEKED OF BARRY AND CO TACTICTS WHO WROTE THE LETTER MR WALSH? BE HONEST YOU OR BARRY.

YOU HAVE NO MANDATE TO DO IT AS TWO PROMENENT MEMBERS OF THE ELECTED COMMITTEE RESINGED IN DISCUST. ITS TIME THE HSE BROUGHT IN THE FRAUD SQUAD AND CHARGED THE LOT OF YE.

  8. Mossie says:

Yes indeed Paddy. The HSE has been told about this group for far too long now, but they don’t seem to have the Gall to investigate them. I wonder why??? The new board have all but gone, as you can see why Tom Brennan had resigned. I cannot prove it, but I’m nearly sure Mr Barry, and his counterpart Mr T are still behind the whole thing.

I don’t think that Barry has stood down at all, and is still working behind the scenes, he has to go, once and for all, there is no room for that person, in any shape or form in Right of Place.

We are all sick to death from that man, and all of his HENCHMEN. Whoever they may be. OUT OUT OUT NOW.

  9. sean morrison says:

    Good morning Paddy, from Arizona.

Not only should the Cork group be investigated, which I mentioned earlier this year in their flying individuals to Ireland and putting them up in the finest hotels, just so they would vote for the group groupies, all the groups have to be held accountable for fraud investigation and if cleared, I say thank you to them for their good intentions but it’s time to say goodbye now, if found that fraud has occured, jail them or worse, put them in an Industrial School. I say well done Mr. Brennan for your wise decision in resigning.

    Seanie.

  10. Paddy says:

Surely the time has now arrived for a public inquiry into how money has been used or abused. After all, this is tax-payer’s money and they like everyone else have a right to know. Paddy.
