Denial of the reality of false allegations of child sex abuse is just as unenlightened as denial of the reality of child abuse itself. The reward of compensation is not the only motive that might prompt a false allegation. An anxious or over-zealous parent or guardian might make a false allegation with no malicious motive. In custody/divorce conflicts a false allegation is sometimes made to gain leverage in the courts.

Avoidance of taking personal responsibility for one`s failings might also encourage one towards the "abuse excuse". When therapists enter the scene to help a client "remember" an abuse for which a client has no previous memory we surely have a recipe for the manufacturing of false allegations. I suspect that most genuine victims of abuse have no difficulty remembering the trauma they suffered and do not need any help in recovering these memories. Why is there a conflict between the victims of child abuse and the victims of false allegations? They have much in common. The reality of one does not negate the reality of the other. Email
