Well where would one start? I have been at this now since September 1999. Why you might ask? On that day I was told that the birth certificate I had was not mine. Bertie Ahern (Irish Prime Minister) made a public apology on behalf of the government and society for what had been done to me and to many hundreds of children. That apology was made in 1999.
Now I have got quite a few files. I thought that I would be able to say who I truly was. What I have got is three places of birth! I was taken to the Court in Killaloe on the 20/12/1948 by the English NSPCC.(National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) to be detained until the age of sixteen. As I now know that this was a Judicial conviction, if i had stayed in Ireland I would never been able to work with children or in any Government Department - this situation still stands today. What consideration has been given to this:
We are talking about these Dickensian places
We were children, denied all our rights, our families, place of birth.
Some children were used in Vaccine Trials
Have we been given all our Medical Records?. No we have not, have you ever wondered why!
What we got was, A Secret Deal.
This abuse happened for decade after decade, now some people are suggesting that it never happened.
What about the children who died while in institutions and those that were sent to Magdalen Laundries to mental institutions and to hospitals.
As no newspaper will publish letters we write, Paddy has given people the opportunity to put thoughts into "print". That is what I've done here.
