Let me begin by congratulating Conor Ryan for his excellent piece (Oct 1) on highlighting the difficulties between the Government and the religious orders over the payment of a 50/50 share of redress to people abused in industrial institutions.
However, there are some very important points to be made, and these highlight some misconceptions around this unseemly row.

* There is no further monetary redress for people who were abused in institutional care.

* This row is about the Government and the religious orders sharing the cost of redress, which has already been paid out!

* A very small part of this row concerns the additional Statutory Institutions Fund (€110m).

It frustrates me a great deal at the rumbling on of this row, because it is demeaning to those of us who were so horrendously abused in these institutions.

In our frontline work on behalf of over five and a half thousand people who made contact with our offices last year, and who now live in considerable difficulty, (as adults,) the reality of that abuse, and its consequences on families, is lost in this continuing row over who should pay what.

The people who seek our help are sidelined, and left to suffer in abject poverty, social isolation, and are marginalised by all of the States agencies dealing in housing, health, welfare and statutory care.

We say to the religious orders — for God’s sake, pay up.

And, to Minister Quinn, we say — stop trying to shift the problem of years of State and religious abuse to one of good guy/bad guy.

Engage in a meaningful dialogue at managing and finding solutions to the many difficulties now being experienced by those of us whose lives as children, and now as adults, have been blighted by the acts of abuse.

Hi Oliver, yes I agree with you “Ireland is a Sham!” but it’s my Home, let the Priests and Nuns and the corrupth bent Government bodies leave Ireland, let them feck of, I’ll stand my ground and put it up to them! I understand Survivors like you Oliver and many many other Survivors have left Ireland with good reason, but I’m from a very different age group, I’m one of the last to be released just before the Industrail schools were closed down! Most of My age group stayed in Ireland because Ireland was a rich enough country and there was work here, we could pick and choose jobs “cash in the hand” bar work, fast food joints, night clubs so on, walk in and out of different jobs! It was easy for me any way as I was living in Dublin city, but there was an other reason for me staying here, I was mentally unwell at times and spent a lot of time in and out of hospital! I was drugged up to the eye balls and left to wonder around not knowing one day from the next then one month then one year and before I knew it I was a drug addict my Dr my drug dealer! I broke away from them all and today I’m anti medication, I won’t even take a lem sip! My political view is “Free the Weed!” The THC in Weed/Cannabis it makes people THINK and that is one reason why our Government don’t want us using it, the government want us drinking Alachol that way we don’t know what is going on around us, we” the irish ” are blind to the government destroying our Counrty and ruling the roost! I would like to add also that I’m anti Alachol I hate the sight of the stuff! It should be banned! Oliver what you wrote would be a lovely dream to follow and who knows when my children reach 18 in an other 8 years you’d never know I might just follow that dream! So keep the road open and the sea food fresh! Best wishes Oliver and thanks! Cathriona

Now question for Michael Walsh, are you Michael Walsh Jnr or Snr? Are you the Michael Walsh that emailed me? And I emailed you back and still waiting on a reply?

Robert, I’m am going to be standing out side Ennis CBS on Saturday advising voters to vote No in the children’s referendum! I will education them on the dangers of voting yes! The Irish State have already proven they are unfit to look after our children! They failed us as children and will continue to do so! Bottom line the government are simply looking power over our rights as parents! They will never get their hands on my children!

Politicians will sell the public the biggest carrot to guide them away from their true intentions, those intentions are CONTROL OF ALL HUMAN RIGHTS, already, they swallowed up the office of human rights by sticking them under their own umbrella, just like the so called support groups for survivors.
I have not met one survivor as of yet who believe truly these groups represented them or their social needs.
I said it so many times how can someone claim to represet you if they,
    1. NEVER MET YOU, 2. DO NOT KNOW YOU, 3. DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH PERSONALLY, 4. NEVER ASKED YOU PERSONALLY,
Then to top it all the most important question ever.
WHO WERE THEY TO DECIDE ON AGREEING WITH THE GOVERNMENT AND THE RELIGIOUS REGARDING REDRESS ESPECIALLY WHEN THOSE AGREEMENTS CAME BEFORE THE MAJORITY OF SURVIVORS CAME FORWARD? YEP SOMETHING STANK AND STILL DOES.
SURVIVORS HAD TO AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET UP BEFORE THEY EVEN GOT TO TELL THEIR STORIES.
If this was to be done above board all survivors should have been gathered firstly and should have had PROFESSIONAL BODIES IN PLACE to advise them.
Another very important question is how can they decide on a point system before the majority of survivors came forward?????

PADDY DOYLE’S VERY WORDS NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US.
except THE VERY OPPOSITE HAD TAKEN PLACE,

    EVERYTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US.

The handling of this whole thing was UNJUST AND ALWAYS WILL BE UNTIIL EDUCATION MINISTER QUINN RETURNS THE FINANCES TO HEAL SURVIVORS IN THEIR LIVES PROPERLY AND STOP TRYING TO STEAL THE FINANCES TO RUN HIS OWN OFFICE.

SURVIVORS HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS TO EDUCATION THEN AND NOPW WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR IT BY THEIR OWN FINANCES

  4. robert says:

Well said Cathriona How can anyone allow the same to happen all over again?
There is something that is like a cancer in our society and that is those trusted with children often look after their wages before they even care for the job they get paid for

  5. Cathriona, the only solution for Irish Republican Families with children, is to leave Ireland. I have been posting this for sometime now, welcome to Australia and leave your church behind. Now , with great delight, I see on news here, Irish invasion, and thats the most positive thing that they can do. As I say, forget the Church buildings and these stupid clerics, priests and nuns, they have no relationship with the Creator. Here, you will find God in the vastness of this Island continent and in its flora, fauna and its many climates and time zones. East west alone is a 4,500 mile drive, with some of the straights 15,000 klmtrs long with no bend in these sections, foot down and cruise control, relaxing your legs as you speed along. Beautiful coastlines with great beaches, sea food is plentiful and the lamb and fillet steak is great. Like everything, you only get out, what you put in. Ireland seems to hang on to its culture of pilfering its wealth, by far too few and these Victim Groups are as parasitic and forked tongued as Churches and Republican State. Leave them my brothers and sisters and start life anew. Ps one of my Artane Prison friends Danny Ellis has written a great book, just released, “The Boy At The Gate” and he was sentenced to eight years in Artane at 8 years of age. What a great focused human being and lives in States, Carolina hills. No fear of him bringing up children in Ireland. You all deserve better. Regards to all, Oliver

  6. Cathriona says:

Hi Oliver, yeah your right! I’ll leave them to their own device and any luck they will blow them self’s up!

Next Saturday the of 10th November; the People of Ireland are been asked to vote yes/no in The Children’s Referendum! I have my voting card and I will be voting NO with a capital N! N for NO THANK’S! The Irish Government want Power over our Children! Power to destroy our rights are parents! If people are stupid enough to vote yes well it’s only a matter of time before we have new industrail schools and the landureys reopened under different name but ran by the same scum that took our childhoods away and destroyed our families in to the bargen!

I’ll be back on this page later! I want to ask Michael Walsh ROP/SC a question!

    Best Wishes To All
    Cathriona

  7. Cathriona, petty people are best shunned and are only victims of themselves. If they were actual victims of church gossips and State abuse and slavery, they would not resort to these petty negative actions. Regards Oliver.

  9. Robert says:

Please close down all groups who are passing their own views claiming them to be representing survivors, So what redress was paid but that has never been the point, the point is healing for ALL SURVIVORS OF BOTH INDUSTRIAL SCHOOLS AND LAUNDRIES, HEALING NOT EDUCATION FOR THEIR FAMILIES BUT HEALING ((( FIRSTLY FOR THOSE WHO SUFFERED)) THE EDUCATION FUNDS HAVE ONLY FINANCED AN INSTITUTION THAT IS ALREADY FUNDED WELL BY THE TAX PAYER, ALL IRISH PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO THE EDUCATION ALREADY PROVIDED WHY SHOULD SURVIVORS HAVE TO PAY YET AGAIN THEMSELVES WITH THE 110 MILLION LEFT AS SCRAPS DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR, THE 50 50 DEAL WAS NOT AGREED BY SURVIVOORS THEMSELVES END OF.

  10. Cathriona, who blocked your contact with this site.

  12. pauline says:

This kind of thing is really awfull. The love of money seems a lot more important than the lives of those who were victims. whenever thay try and get away with the truth of this thay dont mention the beatings stuck in our memories nor the hunger. reconciliaton is the beginning of absoluton for them. So no thanks that wont help ear drums gone through violence. And all the work done in there. this was instead of the care thay were being thanked for constantly. And its enough to put anyone off religion.thay have done more harm than good throughout history in ireland.

  13. Paddy, now that is a very positive comment on behalf of Irish State and Church infant slaves. As for any reconcilliation in the name of nChristian Bros founder Eddie Ignoramus Rotten Rice, is a no no for what we victims suffered and had to witness from this Christian Dis Order and much the pity he lived so long. Had you been unlucky enough to be in Artane murder prison, you would not have survived to tell the tale. Even victims who lost only one limb, totally relied on others constant help just to survive, from day to day. Paddy, I am saying this in all sincerity. These bastards weremore twisted than us. They were our teachers and I impart my issues in a similar way. We did not lick this attitude from the Killester Road of even Kilmore road. Oliver. As hate,
    begets Hate.
